Rotaract European Sailing Trip 2019
17th to 24th August, 2019; Zadar Archipelago, Croatia
REST 2019 edition
This annual edition combines the key ingredients of an unforgettable week – summer, Adriatic Sea, a fleet of 6 sailing yachts, and an international crew of almost 60 Rotaractors.
This year, we aim to deliver a more personal, cosy, and private experience by sailing a smaller fleet of six new four- and five- cabin yachts. Croatian summer at its very best is mid-August with the warm crystal-clear sea and stable weather. We promise you’ll fall in love with the high quality and a comfortable stay on board offered by our program!
The basis of Rotary is friendship and our promise to you is that you will depart from this REST sailing trip with many new international friends and wonderful memories. Whether you are a solo applicant, in a small group or as a whole club, the week spent on board will connect all the participants like nothing before. The number of places is limited to just 49 sailors, which makes this year’s edition even more exclusive and special.
Based in Biograd, we will sail the Zadar Archipelago and spend most of our time in the area of Dugi Otok and Kornati islands. Don’t worry if you’ve already sailed there with us; we aim to discover many new places! Expect a very relaxed and easy schedule during the day and more than half of the evenings in the wild bays among the pure, unspoiled nature.
Get ready for the week of your life, and we will take care of the REST! 🙂
In just this one week, we will show you some of the most beautiful and wild places in the Central Adriatic. The REST sailing route will lead us around Dugi island and all along the magnificent Kornati archipelago. Sandy beaches, cocktail bars, delicious Dalmatian cuisine, warm crystal-clear sea and the perfect Adriatic summer weather will ensure you’ll remember it for the REST of your life!
Saturday, 17th of August – Biograd na moru
We’ll start our sailing experience in the lovely city of Biograd na moru in Marina Kornati. The reception desk will welcome you after 4-pm when the first yachts are ready for boarding. You will have the late afternoon free to settle in, do some grocery shopping, relax and bond with your new sailing team. In the evening, we will stay in the marina and mingle on the boats.
Sunday, 18th of August – Wild bay on Sestrunj island
On our first morning, we’ll have time to enjoy an easy breakfast, coffee and do some final shopping. When the wind builds up, we’ll first sail to the north to the island of Sestrunj, where we will anchor in the raft. We’ll reward ourselves with afternoon drink in the crystal-clear wild bay, where we’ll spend the rest of the evening and chill on the boats. Let’s see what the first night on the sea will bring. 🙂
Monday, 19th of August – The Little island of Galijica
Could you imagine a better start of Monday morning, than diving into the warm Adriatic Sea? During the day, we will visit the Yugoslavian National Army Submarine Bunker and set sails towards the tiny little island of Galijica, where we’ll spend the rest of the evening. Certainly, that’s not all for the day. We have a sunset surprise in store for you, followed by the party of the week. Remote little island, a summer sky full of stars, a dance floor under the trees, a DJ, and a international Rotaract family, do we need to name more reasons why this will be an evening to remember?
Tuesday, 20th of August – The Port of Sali, Dugi otok
On Tuesday, we continue our route to the south and sail along beautiful and diverse coast of Dugi otok. Like every day, we’ll have enough time to stop for a swim during the day. In the afternoon we will moore in the cosy city of Sali. It will offer you the typical Adriatic cuisine restaurants, grocery shop and other facilities, including toilets and showers in the marina. After the two previous intensive nights, we’ll spend an easy evening in the bar located just next to the yacht’s moorings.
Wednesday, 21nd of August – Island Levrnaka, Kornati
Morning coffee just in front to the boats and fresh bread sounds like a good start of the day. As on every REST sailing trip in the region so far, we will sail to the National Park of Kornati, one of the most beautiful places in the Adriatic Sea. During the day you will have the chance to visit many Kornati attractions – ruins of the fortress, a film industry coulisse village from the ’60s, an 18th-century lighthouse, walk to the firefighter’s memorial park with monumental stone crosses or simply chill on the anchor in one of the bays.
In the late afternoon, we’ll moor on Levrnaka Island where ex President Tito’s magnificent sandy beach of Lojena can be found – including one of the best views over the Kornati islands. Later in the evening, we’ll gather for dinner in the local restaurant above the bay and enjoy some domestic and traditional dalmatian cuisine.
Thursday, 22th of August – Island Smokvica, Kornati
On Thursday, we’ll continue to the south and enjoy some downwind sailing through Kornati islands. The day will be free for the crews to choose howto enjoy their last full day in the wild nature as they want. Stops for swimming, lunch in the restaurants of the area or simply sailing between the islands are some nice options. During the afternoon, we’ll anchor the raft in the south of Kornati Islands and let’s see what the last evening under the summer sky will bring. 😉
Friday, 23nd of August – Biograd na moru
We will wake up admiring the Kornati Islands in all of their beauty and a refreshing morning swim will set the tone for your day. We will stay in the bay until midday and during the afternoon, finish our sailing trip back to Biograd na Moru. Some water activities and swimming during the day will of course not be left out. Don’t be afraid, there will be one more thing waiting for us – a Farewell dinner* in Carp I More Restaurant in the centre of Biograd City, where we will taste some typical Mediterranean cuisine and enjoy the ambience. And as it will be our last evening together, we will make sure, to make it an unforgettable one!
